Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most famous composers of all time. He lived in the 16 and 1700’s, and he is credited with over 1,100 known works of music. Bach was also devoutly Lutheran, and most of his music was written for the church. At the top of most of his manuscripts, he would write “Jesus Juva,” Latin for “Jesus Help.” Then at the end, he would write “Soli Deo Gloria,” meaning “Glory to God Alone.” He approached each work in faith and gave God all the credit.

Oftentimes, life can be like a symphony. It is easy to know what sounds good, but actually writing one yourself is much harder. The book of Hebrews provides a powerful reminder of how we are supposed to shape our lives. It reminds us that the point of being connected to God has always been knowing Him by faith. It also shows how great the authority and love of Jesus are. Building on past examples of faith, Hebrews 11:6 teaches us that God will do great things through us when we live in brave faith.

6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists, and that he rewards those who seek him. – Hebrews 11:6

  1. Faith is the only way to please God

Faith is a confidence in God and the truth of His word. The Bible makes it clear that we were created to know God and live in a relationship with Him. God rejoices when faith is the foundation of our lives.

  1. Faith produces active obedience

God’s commands are a major expression of His goodness and love. If we are convinced of that truth, our actions will reveal our belief. Even when God’s instructions do not make sense, a genuine faith will produce the fruit of obedience.

  1. Faith is worth it

The world will certainly try to stop us from living in obedience to God. We must always remember that the reward of a personal relationship with Christ is greater than any comfort or convenience in the world. Wherever God calls us, we can be confident that obedience by faith will be well worth the effort.

We cannot properly obey and glorify God by our own natural ability or strength. We need His Spirit and strength within us. In the symphony of life, faith is the only melody that pleases God.
