Twice in the past two weeks, I have encountered a baby fawn being left by its mother. Mother deer will leave their newborn fawns while they go feed. The momma dear leave them behind because the fawns are too slow to keep up and as a way to protect their young from predators.

A meaningful reflection of Jesus happens when we stay “put.”

In case you’re wondering, we didn’t touch either one…We knew what was happening and stayed away. However, I did keep a periodic eye on the one in my neighbor’s yard. Throughout the day, I would peek out the window to watch the baby wait for the return of the momma. My mind is captivated by this design of nature. It’s amazing to think that God designed these animals to know what to do. The spiritual application of this design is endless, but here are a few.

Three Thoughts About the Fawn Staying Put:

1. Staying Put was best for the fawn — The mom left the fawn because it was best for the fawn. Being left behind doesn’t always feel like the best option. We fear missing out, we fear being alone, but sometimes God puts us in position of being alone, because it is best. And, we know that with God, we are never alone.

Truth: God has a specific reason for why He has placed you in your current location and part of the reason is for your benefit.

2. The fawn had protection — Despite only being twenty feet away, it was difficult to see the fawn. It’s amazing how well the markings on the fawn’s back helped it blend into the scenery. The baby deer had the protection it needed for the location it had been placed.

Truth: Being alone doesn’t mean you’re not protected.

3. The fawn understood its job — There was some moments when the fawn looked bored, but the fawn never moved. It stayed in the same two-foot circle for over ten hours. Staying where the fawn had been placed by its mother was important so the mother would know where to retrieve the fawn later in the day.

Truth: When God places us, we need to stay until He comes to move us to the next spot.

As we walk through life this week, let’s be diligent to stay focused on where God has us, doing what He’s asked us.

Keep Reflecting Jesus!
